@@Scooter110 i did struggle a bit when I played the bass for the first time even though I knew how to play the guitar, because my ears were not used to notes on the bass which are the same on the guitar too.

@rsaisudarshan I get it. I can't play the guitar very well at all but I don't need to learn the fretboard from scratch like the guitarist in the video seemed to be doing. He should know that 5th fret g string is a c or 9th an e etc.

@rsaisudarshan I started the same way and it served me well to a point. I learned patterns as well and still use them. Eventually I thought. There's a huge hole in my knowledge of the instrument so I learned the fretboard. I could already read music and had a fairly good knowledge of music theory. I learned piano and it was hard to stop translating the fretboard into piano notes for a while. For example. When I visualised a chord say a c7 I would see in my minds eye a c, e, g, and b flat on a piano then translate that to fretboard instead of visualising it on the fretboard in the first place. It was a hard habit to get out of.
